Dear………………

You are cordially invited to a talk to be given by Noel Tennison entitled:

‘The Decline of Australian Democracy’.

Noel was a long term activist and advisor in the Australian labour movement both as a full time union official in Queensland and later as a PR consultant to the Federated Clerks Union (FCU), Shop Assistants Union (SDA), the Democratic Labor Party (DLP) and the National Civic Council (NCC) in Melbourne.

Shortly after arriving in Victoria Noel’s services were snapped up by Liberal Premier, Rupert Hamer, and in due course he represented the National Party, Australia Party and the DLP in their bid for proportional representation in the Victorian Legislative Council in 1975.

Noel Tennison recently published a book entitled “My Spin in PR – A Memoir” (2008).

This book covers Mr. Tennison’s time in Melbourne from 1972 to the early 1990s in Australian politics and industrial relations that involved working with a range of politicians, political operatives, unionists and media celebrities. The speaker will be happy also to talk about any of the events and experiences covered in the book (copies of which can be purchased at the function at $29.95).  There will also be ample opportunity to ask questions and/or make comment at the conclusion of Mr. Tennison’s talk.

The address will be heard on Wednesday, 26 November as part of the usual monthly HCAA schedule.

The talk will commence at 7.30 pm  in the upstairs function room at

Bells Hotel and Brewery, 157 Moray Street (Corner of Coventry Road) Mel ways REF 2K E1.
