Bayside Monarchists Chairman, Mr. David Cowling cordially invites you to celebrate the official birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on Sunday the 8th of June at the Mercantile Rowing Club.  Queen Elizabeth II has given over fifty years of service to her people.  It is now crucially important that Her Majesty be supported because the Crown’s role in safeguarding our freedom and liberty is under renewed republican threat. 

The removal of the Crown from federal and state Australian constitutions will necessarily entail massive constitutional change which the Australian people will not have control over.  The current protection of our civil liberties by judicial common law will also come under threat if the Crown is removed from our federal and state constitutions. 

As part of the current republican push there will be attempts to promote a ‘minimalist republic’ (sic) in which it will be argued that state governors and the Governor -General can continue to fulfil their current constitutional roles without being representatives of the monarch.  This approach is dangerous because continuing connection to the monarch guarantees carriage of the constitutional conventions which underpin Australia’s constitutional viability.

For the sake of protecting our constitutionally guaranteed rights the position of the Crown must be safeguarded.  Furthermore any Australian republican push is a personal affront to Her Majesty Elizabeth II who has selflessly served us as our sovereign.  In the coming months there will be attempts to manipulate public opinion in favour of a republic by those who stand to benefit from the constitutional vacuum which will come if the Crown is removed. 

Australia’s system of constitutional monarchy has also helped inspire civic service.  It is therefore fitting that the three guest speakers who will individually address the luncheon for up to twenty minutes each, have made impressive contributions in the fields of sport and science.  The three guest speakers will be Mr. Bill Mc Auley, Mr. David Boykett and and Mr. Bob Lachal.  These gentlemen will speak on the shared topic of: Multi-Masted Steel Hull Sailing Ships, Adventure, Polar Expeditions and Science through ‘INTREPID Adventure’.

 The Bayside Monarchists Queen’s Birthday Luncheon will be held on:

At the Mercantile Rowing Club
(third building from Princes Bridge)
Boathouse Drive Melbourne (Yarra bank)

Enter from Linlithgow Avenue, ‘T’ Intersection 80 metres along Alexandra Parade.  (Parking available along Boathouse Drive and along the boat sheds). 

This luncheon is also a marvellous opportunity to meet other monarchists and flags of the Realms of the Commonwealth will be displayed to add to the festive atmosphere of this important event.  Attire is neat casual and men are requested to wear neck ties.   

The lunch is $40 a head.  The lunch will be a two course meal with a cheese platter.  The cost of the lunch includes beer, soft drink, wine, tea and coffee.
