Alija Izetbegovic: Integrity in the Face of Evil July 13, 2007

Just prior to his death in 2003 the Bosnian Muslim leader Alija Izetbegovic was under investigation for alleged war crimes by the international tribunal in The Hague.  This action was unjustified and inaccurate because Izetbegovic was a leader who had displayed remarkable courage and integrity by persevering in his struggle to forge a multi-ethnic state and was not in fact responsible for any human rights abuses.  The unjustified criticism of Izetbegovic is all the more galling when one considers that his pleas for military intervention to stop the carnage which was occurring in Bosnia (between 1992 and 1995) were ignored until 1995.  (more…)
